Job Overview - Substance Use Counselor:
Join our team in Brooklyn, NY as a Substance Use Counselor. In this role, you will deliver essential behavioral health services, conduct assessments, and provide comprehensive support to individuals with substance use disorders. Help clients on their journey to recovery and make a meaningful impact in their lives.

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Compensation: $28-$38/hour (Dependent on License - LMSW, CASAC, CASAC-T)
Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday


Responsibilities of the Substance Use Counselor Include:
  • Client Assessment & Planning: Conduct intake interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, various screenings, and formulate/review treatment plans, scheduling participants for necessary services.
  • Counseling & Case Management: Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices and act as a case manager, coordinating care within the facility and providing referrals to community-based resources.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system and prepare monthly updates for court or other referring agencies.
  • Team Collaboration & Quality Improvement: Participate in treatment team case reviews, staff meetings, training sessions, and identify/report opportunities to improve care quality, staff effectiveness, and participant satisfaction.
  • Toxicology Tests & Discharge Planning: Collect samples for toxicology testing and develop discharge/transfer plans.
Qualifications for the Substance Use Counselor Include:
  • Licensure: New York State Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or equivalent (LMSW, CASAC-T).
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in substance use counseling and case management.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, computer literacy, and excellent clinical writing skills.
  • Diversity Commitment: Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
