Job Overview - Substance Abuse Counselor:
Become a key Substance Abuse Counselor in Brooklyn, NY, providing essential behavioral health services to individuals with substance use disorders. In this temporary role, you will screen, assess, and lead both group and individual counseling sessions, while coordinating care and maintaining detailed records.
Compensation: $28 - $38/hour (Dependent on Experience)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (On-Site)
Responsibilities as the Substance Abuse Counselor:
Assessments: Conduct intake interviews, biopsychosocial assessments, and mental health screenings.
Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices.
Case Management: Act as case manager, coordinating care and referrals to community resources.
Documentation: Maintain accurate, OASAS-compliant records and timely documentation in the electronic health system.
Coordination: Prepare reports for courts or referring agencies and participate in treatment team reviews.
Compliance: Collect toxicology samples, participate in meetings, and develop discharge plans.
Qualifications for the Substance Abuse Counselor:
Certification: CASAC, LMSW, or CASAC-T (New York State).
Experience: 2+ years in Substance Use Counseling and Case Management, with a focus on treatment planning and opioid use.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, clinical writing, and computer literacy.
Preferred: Bilingual in English/Spanish.
