Job Overview – Physical Therapist (School-Based)
Compensation: $70,000 – $75,000/year
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday (School Hours)

TAG MedStaffing is hiring a Physical Therapist (School-Based) in New York, NY for our client, supporting physical therapy services, mobility development, therapeutic interventions, and individualized education plans for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This opportunity will work closely with educators, therapists, families, and healthcare providers to help students improve functional mobility, independence, safety, and participation within the educational environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical skills, a collaborative approach, and a passion for working with children and adolescents in a special education setting.

Responsibilities as the Physical Therapist:
  • Therapy Services: Provide physical therapy services in accordance with individualized education plans, treatment goals, and student needs.
  • Evaluation & Assessment: Conduct evaluations and assessments to identify mobility, motor development, positioning, and functional movement needs.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on mobility, posture, motor skills, safety, and functional independence.
  • Adaptive Equipment Support: Recommend, monitor, and support the use of adaptive equipment, orthotics, mobility devices, and therapeutic positioning programs.
  • Collaborative Care: Partner with teachers, families, therapists, and healthcare professionals to coordinate services and support student progress.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation, monitor student progress, and ensure compliance with educational and clinical requirements.

Qualifications for the Physical Therapist:
  • Education: Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) is preferred.
  • Licensure: Active New York State Physical Therapist license and registration are required.
  • Experience: 1+ years of experience working with children in pediatric, school-based, developmental disability, autism, or special education settings is preferred, and new graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of pediatric rehabilitation, mobility training, adaptive equipment, developmental disabilities, and school-based therapy services is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems is required.
  • Skills & Attributes: Strong communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team are required.
