Job Overview – Medical Social Worker:
Join our client as a Medical Social Worker in Brooklyn, NY, where you will provide critical home-based and on-site counseling services to families, addressing complex needs with a strength-based and trauma-informed approach. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise, advocacy, and collaboration to ensure family safety, well-being, and progress.
Compensation: $35/hour
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: 35 hours/week
Responsibilities as the Medical Social Worker:
Counseling and Crisis Intervention: Provide individual, family, and group counseling, along with short-term crisis intervention and advocacy for a designated caseload of eight families.
Fieldwork and Family Engagement: Engage families immediately upon referral, participate in ACS Child Safety Conferences, and conduct home visits.
Solution-Based Casework (SBC): Implement and integrate SBC principles into assessments, outcomes, and action plans; conduct screenings for substance use, mental illness, and child safety.
Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with ACS, treatment providers, schools, and other resources serving families; attend Family Court hearings and facilitate referrals as needed.
Case Management: Maintain thorough documentation, including FASP reports, case notes, and statistical reports, ensuring compliance with agency and state policies.
Consultation and Training: Collaborate with Family Workers, participate in Clinical Diagnostic Team meetings, and engage in ongoing SBC training and certification processes.
Qualifications for the Medical Social Worker:
Education: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field required (LMSW preferred).
Experience: Prior child welfare experience required (SBC training or certification is a plus).
Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and counseling abilities, with excellent inquiry skills for sharing and seeking best practices.
Attributes: Commitment to a strength-based, trauma-informed, and youth/family development approach.
Language: Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
