Job Overview – Assistant Program Director (LMSW/LMHC)
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000/year
Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm


TAG MedStaffing is hiring an Assistant Program Director (LMSW/LMHC) in New York, NY for our client. In this in-office role, you will provide clinical leadership and operational support within a community-based mental health program, balancing a small caseload with staff supervision, program administration, and cross-system coordination. You will support recovery-oriented, field-based services while partnering closely with the Program Director to ensure compliance, quality assurance, and strong client outcomes.

Responsibilities as the Assistant Program Director (LMSW/LMHC):
  • Clinical Services & Caseload Management: Maintain a small caseload while delivering recovery-oriented, field-based clinical and case management services.
  • Staff Supervision & Clinical Leadership: Provide reflective clinical supervision to staff and interns while supporting skill development, wellness, and a collaborative team culture.
  • Care Coordination & Crisis Intervention: Coordinate access to medical, behavioral health, and community resources while delivering crisis intervention, safety planning, and de-escalation in community settings.
  • Program Administration & Quality Oversight: Support program operations, including scheduling, onboarding, training compliance, documentation standards, audits, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Coverage: Serve as a liaison to external partners and assume Program Director responsibilities as needed to ensure continuity of care and program effectiveness.
Qualifications for the Assistant Program Director (LMSW/LMHC):
  • Licensure: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Limited Permit Mental Health Counselor (LP-MHC) required.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working within mental health, homeless services, or justice-involved systems required, with increasing responsibility preferred.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Strong understanding of recovery-oriented practice, harm reduction, crisis intervention, and community-based service delivery models.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, with the ability to learn systems such as AWARDS, AOT, and Maven.
  • Certifications & Preferences: SIFI certification, IMT team experience, and fluency in Spanish or American Sign Language (ASL) preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, support staff development, and collaborate effectively across systems.
