Job Overview – Family Counselor (Transitions Program):
Step into a pivotal role as a Family Counselor with our client in Brooklyn, NY. In this temporary position, you’ll offer tailored counseling services to families facing challenges, utilizing proven methods to promote child safety, strengthen family connections, and empower caregivers. Partner with community organizations and resources to foster lasting, positive change.
Compensation: $28/hour
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Onsite, 35 hours/week
Responsibilities as the Family Counselor (Transitions Program):
Family Support: Provide home-based and on-site counseling and crisis intervention for assigned families, addressing safety and well-being.
Case Management: Conduct screenings for mental health, substance use, and caregiver capacity, ensuring monthly child assessments.
Solution-Based Casework: Implement SBC principles, including assessments, outcomes, action plans, and documentation.
Collaboration: Work closely with ACS, schools, medical providers, and community resources to coordinate services.
Court Participation: Represent families at ACS meetings, Family Court hearings, and collaborate with Family Services Units (FSU) and Legal Services (FCLS).
Qualifications for the Family Counselor (Transitions Program):
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related fields required.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in child welfare required, with SBC training or certification.
Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and counseling abilities with excellent inquiry and problem-solving skills.
Technical Skills: Proficient in utilizing databases such as PROMIS and Connections (familiarity with case documentation systems preferred).
Attributes: Committed to a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach and youth/family development perspective.
Language Skills: Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
