Job Overview – Correctional Nurse (LPN):
Join our client as a Correctional Nurse (LPN) in Syracuse, NY, providing direct and individualized nursing care to inmates in a secure correctional facility. This evening shift role involves patient assessments, medication administration, emergency response, and collaborative care within a structured environment. The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking skills, adaptability, and a commitment to ethical and professional patient care.
Patient Care & Assessments: Perform comprehensive evaluations for new intakes, chronic care patients, and emergency situations.
Medication & Treatment Administration: Dispense medications and provide medical treatments as prescribed.
Collaboration & Continuity of Care: Work with healthcare teams to ensure timely interventions and ongoing patient support.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate medical records in SOAP format while adhering to facility regulations.
Emergency Response & Crisis Care: Address urgent medical needs, assess inmate conditions, and provide necessary care.
Health Education & Safety: Educate inmates on treatments, promote wellness, and uphold correctional healthcare standards.
Qualifications for the Correctional Nurse (LPN):
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Licensure: Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in New York required.
Experience:Â At least 1 year of LPN experience, with correctional healthcare experience preferred.
Certification: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required.
Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills for electronic documentation and medical recordkeeping.
Skills & Attributes: Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and crisis management abilities, with an empathetic yet objective approach to patient care.
Professionalism & Facility Commitment: Ability to maintain respect and confidence of inmates and staff while aligning with the mission and objectives of the correctional facility.
