Job Overview - Career Development Specialist:
Step into the temporary role of a Career Development Specialist in Bronx, NY, where you'll support young adults facing homelessness in achieving their academic and career aspirations. Through personalized guidance and access to essential resources, you'll help them build a brighter future.
Compensation: $28/hour
Location: Bronx, NY
Schedule: Flexible Shifts (Fieldwork between the Bronx and Harlem areas)
Responsibilities as the Career Development Specialist:
Career Support: Provide 1:1 career and academic support, connecting participants to schools, programs, and resources.
Collaboration: Collaborate with Case Managers, Housing Navigators, and Social Workers.
Workshops: Facilitate workshops on employment, education, and life skills.
Planning: Help participants with post-secondary planning, including college applications and financial aid.
Job Assistance: Aid participants in job applications, internships, and career pathways.
Qualifications for the Career Development Specialist:
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth.
Knowledge: Familiarity with NYC Dept. of Education and college application processes.
Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Techniques: Proficient in motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
Awareness: Clear insight into the needs of young adults facing homelessness, the LGBTQ community, and sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences.
